North Lakes is located 25 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD along the Bruce Highway. The college opened its doors in 2002 as a P-3 College.

North Lakes State College was planned as a unique State Government education facility, which would enable students to commence in Prep and continue through to Year 12 at the one school.  This P to 12 college organisation provides a seamless progression for students, enabling them to build on their skills and knowledge without transition interruptions.

The master planned education concept was developed in conjunction with North Lakes community, Pine Rivers Shire Council, and Education Queensland to service the growing community of North Lakes and Mango Hill. The result being we are a world class learning organisation that provides students with unique learning opportunities.

One of the unique concepts of the College was the focus on a "village community" atmosphere. This is evident in the construction of the buildings, layout of the grounds, and even the naming of the buildings: Cottages, Lodges, Villas, Bungalows and Terraces.  The architectural designed layout of the buildings is a circular spine which depicts the "Circle of Life Long Learning".

Opening its doors in 2002, the College commenced with 75 students in the Pre-school years and 75 students spread across Years 1, 2 and 3. The College facilities consisted of 6 Cottages, Cottage Court, an Admin block (now the refurbished Advancement Block) and a shed.

In 2003, Years 4, 5 and 6 were introduced into the College, along with the next structures called the Villa Precinct.

Then in 2004 there was further growth as the Year 7 was welcomed and the Lodge Precinct opened. In this year there was massive construction across the campus in readiness for the introduction of the secondary school component of Years 8 and 9 in 2005.

Year 10 entered the college in 2006.  The final stage of growth for North Lakes State College was during 2006 when the Urban Learning Centre was constructed for the Senior years of schooling with Year 11 entering in 2007 and Year 12 in 2008.

This unique educational facility shares sporting facilities with the public and is close to the shopping precinct and transportation. The Urban Learning Centre has beautiful grounds and facilities for the students including an industry standard commercial kitchen for hospitality studies, an Art studio with viewing gallery, IT Labs and modern classrooms.

The College has established a well-planned and sequenced curriculum program that is supported by a huge selection of extra curricular activities and a pastoral care program which assists each student to explore their talents, interests, and abilities.

The staff and students share a friendly, modern learning environment.
