Italian Immersion Signature Program
North Lakes State College Italian Immersion
Signature Program aims to challenge and extend those students who have
demonstrated an outstanding academic capability and aptitude for
languages.
Students will have the opportunity to work in
a class of like minded, devoted and committed students learning core
curriculum subjects in the Italian language.
The Italian Immersion program is a three year
program commencing in Year 7. The Year 7 Program is designed to
gradually introduce students to lessons undertaken in Italian. In Year 8
and Year 9, Maths, Science, Humanities and Italian language will be
taught in Italian with qualified and dedicated native speaking teachers.
All other subjects are delivered in English.
Many community members are already aware of
the benefits of learning another language. Second language
acquisition/second language learning develops an understanding of how
languages work, leading to improved literacy skills, including English
literacy. It helps students develop critical thinking, analysis and
problem solving skills.
The program inspires interest in and respect
for other people, their ideas and ways of thinking. Consequently, it
enhances employment and career prospects; contributes to social
cohesiveness through better communication and understanding and
contributes to economic, diplomatic and strategic development.
